So we finally came to a decision on what our first template would be and here it is! Keep in mind we hope to crank out more of these, depending on your feedback.
The Xcelsius chart components seem to be problematic to many users, so we decided to start with demoing how to use the Xcelsius 2008 US Map Drill Down functionality with the Xcelsius tab component, column chart and scenario button. Below is a preview of the model and a short description of each tab:
Download Source Files
- Tab 1 – Map Drill Down to Chart
- Xcelsius Components Used: US Map, Column Chart
- US Sales Map shows colored alerts for each state based on % of targeted values
- Column Chart displays 2 series ‘Actual vs. Forecast’
- Tab 2 – Map Drill Down Scenario
- Xcelsius Components Used: US Map, Column Chart, Slider, Scenario Button
- US Sales Map shows colored alerts for each state based on % of targeted values
- Column Chart displays 2 series ‘Actual vs. Target’
- Slider changes target values by chosen percentage (%)
- Scenario Button allows the user to save, load and delete scenarios. Try it!
- Horizontal Line is strictly cosmetic on both tabs!
At the bottom we included a URL button which links back to our blog. Just credit for our hard work.

Good one…Short and informative.
Thanks for the feedback Kalyan. We wanted to be sure to keep it simple. More to come…
Ah, the trick is to link the “Enable Alerts” part of the USA Map Component to the target cells that are linked to the slider. It took me a while to figure that one out. Very clever!
Hi Robert,
Yes that’s bit tricky. We posted the source file for this demo so hopefully that helps.
Xcelsius 2008 supports 51 states now, which includes the District of Columbia, however I can’t seem to find DC on the map when I’ve used it in my data. Am I doing something wrong?
